REC Silicon - Butte, Montana 


Mid-Level Provider – PA-C or ARNP


Responsible under the authority of attending physician for providing occupational medical services onsite at assigned facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following examples of duties and responsibilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.

  • Diagnose and treat work-related illnesses and injuries of employees
  • Conduct fitness-for-duty and pre-employment physical examinations and return to work certifications
  • Develop and recommend medical and health policies
  • Reexamine disability cases periodically to verify progress
  • Oversee maintenance of case histories, health examination reports, and other medical records
  • Formulate and administer health programs
  • Inspect facilities and makes recommendations regarding sanitation and elimination of health hazards
  • Advise benefits administration involving unusual medical cases or case management for all types of disabilities
  • Advise benefits staff in development of preventive health car.
  • Prepare and submit required local, state, and federal documents and reports
  • E-Squad member and the medical first responder to plant emergencies
  • Perform/order pre-employment and reasonable suspicion drug screen tests as needed
  • Provide E-Squad medical certifications
  • Administer respiratory protection program, including respirator fit testing
  • Diagnose and treat non-work-related illnesses and injuries that potentially impact plant efficiency
  • Administer hearing and eye exams, establish baseline and annual assessments
  • Administer blood drives, flu clinics and other related events


Incumbents must have demonstrated knowledge and abilities in these areas. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

  • Possesses or is eligible for licensure in relevant state where the facility is located (MT) and who is certified (PA-C) by the National Association of Physicians Assistants OR possesses or is eligible for licensure in state where facility is located (MT) as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)
  • Must be capable to write and dispense prescription medication through registration with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA number)
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial medicine, including major emergency triage, acute presentation of symptoms within individuals and chronic health effects.
  • Maintain certification, including completing required CEUs.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, preferably Occupational Health Manager (OHM)

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Aware of and compliant with patient privacy issues (HIPPA) and knowledge of disability policies and practices
  • Must maintain up to date knowledge of new trends in industrial medicine through network and research and able to learn rapidly, the symptoms presented by specific chemical and physical agents at REC Silicon and the appropriate course of treatment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Self-starter with ability to organize and plan while effectively handling unexpected urgent issues
  • Must be able to relate to and be respected by all levels of personnel in the plant and present excellent “bedside manners”
  • Ability to clearly articulate specific courses of treatment employees are required to follow
  • Ability to manage at a very detailed level specific actions and follow-up
  • Ability to manage and work with third party suppliers of medical services
  • Ability to detect trends observed in patients to identify potential issues before they escalate into major problems for either the individual patient or a group of workers
  • Ability to anticipate emergency situations and ensure that adequate skilled and trained resources are available either internally or through third party suppliers to deal efficiently and effectively with any medical emergency on-site

These skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education, experience, and training. This combination will provide the competence to perform the work of the position.

Supervisory and Budgetary Responsibilities

  • No supervisory responsibilities
  • Manage the medical department within budget or elevate additional needs to appropriate management for approval to exceed budget
